ust arrived, ‘Threedom’, a 2021 Astus 20.5 Sport, complete with road trailer and Coppercoating.
Used Astus 20.5s are rare in the UK, so, this is a great opportunity to own a recent example of these pocket rockets.
If you don’t know Astus Boats, these world renowned, VPLP designed trimarans can produce blistering speeds on a wide, stable platform. Yet, Threedom’s floats can be retracted in minutes to a trailer-friendly 2.5m width, making it ideal for taking to your favourite sailing destinations. Requiring no ballast, this lift keel multihull weighs only half a tonne, half the typical weight of a similarly sized monohull. Not only does this create speed on the water but it also enables towing behind a small family car! What’s more, Threedom’s draft makes a real possibility and thanks to its lifting rudder and centreboard it’s easy pop onto its trailer.
Threedom’s efficient ‘Leisure’ sail plan (20m2 upwind) supported by sturdy rigging and coupled to huge buoyant floats means that this Astus 20.5 can be reefed very late – when the wind is blowing 20kts plus! Yet, even nervous crew members will enjoy the low angle of heel offered by these wide trimarans. The cockpit is designed to make single handed sailing simple, even when flying the gennaker.
Despite its diminutive stature the Threedom offers space down below for a crew of two. With the addition of some cushions the long v-berth would accommodate even the tallest adults and there is space below for a portable toilet if you were minded to add one. And if you want to bring the kids, then do as the French do – pitch a tent on the trampolines!
Threedom has clearly been well looked after since we orginally delivered her – the hulls are flawless! This little trimaran comes with a wide list of options as part of its inventory:
