Description

Moonbeam is a 40' canoe stern ketch designed by Phillip L. Rhodes.  He was a pre-eminent sail boat designer from 1920 to 1970.  Moonbeam was built in the Minneford Boat Yard, City Island, New York in 1935.  Moonbeam shares a hull design of several famed ocean racers of that era.  Rhodes designed his boats to be strong, seaworthy and comfortable to survive and keep racing in east coast gales.More rare to the west coast, Moonbeam began sailing from Los Angeles to Puget Sound in the late 1930's.  She has sailed to Alaska and extensively through the Gulf Islands of BC.  She was purchased as a restoration project in 1996 by her current owner, who is an experienced Port Townsend trained shipwright. She has had extensive upgrades including new teak decks and the diesel engine has been replaced.  Her planking is Honduran mahogany over white oak frames and her new cabin top is cold molded yellow cedar.  Custom tapered aluminum masts were installed in 2003 with new standing and running rigging. The deck features attractive bronze fittings, including winches and cleats  with a modern sail rig she is easily driven through the water and turns a good rate of speed that will surprise many sailors.Call today to arrange an appointment to see this magnificent piece of history.  True sailors will instantly fall in love.More interior/ exterior photo's coming soon. Please call either Jeff Crowter at (604) 329-6591 or James Neil at (604) 306-1215 for more information or to arrange a showing.Show More
