Description

Athanor is a 48′ aluminum cutter ketch, designed by Sylvestre Langevin and built by the renowned Metalu yard in France. Metalu is well known for pioneering the construction of high quality, long-lasting aluminum sailing vessels. Athanor is constructed entirely of 5083 aluminum with 6mm welded aluminum plate on aluminum framing for the hull and 4mm for the superstructure. Her beautiful design is both classic and modern, reflecting an aesthetic and skill in craftsmanship not typical of aluminum boats. Athanor is a stout and true ocean voyaging vessel. Fully refit in Seattle between 2013 and 2015, she’s excellently equipped and ready to sail today. Athanor is perfect for a group of 4 to 6 people. She’s Papeete tax paid and with a hardstand place, so the logistics of taking ownership of this boat are easy.

All the critical work necessary to keep Athanor in excellent condition has been done, including engine, electronics, rigging, sails, and hull preparation. The pride of ownership invested in her over the past 16 yearas is impressive, and she represents an amazing value for those who aspire to cruise without compromising on safety, comfort and speed.

Athanor has 3 cabins and a comfortable living area. The companionway to the interior of the boat is offset, allowing for a U-shaped galley on port with a large dining table. To starboard is a full size chart table. At the rear, two single cabins on each side of the cockpit and a bathroom with toilet. A large double bed in the front cabin. The interior is made of mahogany with a white reflective ceiling and parquet floor which offers a beautiful luminosity. The large number of openings allows for excellent ventilation. Its load capacity is substantial, with excellent stowage and tankage that allows you to navigate with both confidence and comfort.

Athanor was extensively refitted in Seattle, WA during 2013-2015. During this time, she was repowered with a new Beta Marine 75 HP diesel engine. Hull and deck paints were completely removed to bare metal, etched, and new Awlgrip coatings applied. Her hull is epoxy coated and has been coated with SeaHawk Smart Solutions non-copper bottom paint to minimize any exposure to dissimilar metals. All Standing rigging was removed, Staylock fittings inspected and replaced as needed; new forestays, backstays, lower shrouds. Deck hardware and hatches were removed and re-anodized. New Harken furlers and Willis sails for both genoa and staysail, as well as a new mizzen sail, and all new running rigging. A new electric Lofrans windless was installed with a re-galvanized Bruce anchor and 300 feet of new 3/8” HT chain. Her electrical systems are completely isolated to ensure hull integrity. New AGM batteries were installed in 2022 and, with her 200 Amp high-output Balmar alternator, she is ready for LiFePO4 batteries if desired.

Here are some highlights from the list of recent equipment and maintenance:

  • Engine BETA 75 – Beta Marine : <1500h (2014)
