Downeast 38

Arabella is a classic.   She has served her current owner for 20 years and is ready for some new adventures. A true blue water boat.  

Classic beauty with great bones

This Downeaster 38 was made by Downeast Yachts in Santa Ana CA in 1978. The boat was designed and built for world cruising. Even if your plans are to not cruise the world it is comforting to know she is built to uncompromising standards for strength, speed, and safety. Her clipper bow, wineglass stern, and clear deck areas offer a classically graceful appearance while housing a comfortable interior.  

Her cast internal ballast is fitted and faired to the hulls hand laid fiberglass that exceeds Lloyd's specifications. Her deck to hull flange is epoxied and mechanically ftened. The deck is a lamination of fiberglass and high density closed cell material, NOT plywood or balsa. All deck fittings are back plated for safety. All thru hulls have been replaced and backplated. The hull below the waterline has been barrier coated and freshly bottom painted. The hull and spars have been painted with Awlgrip. All shrouds have been increased in size and grade with Hasseford sta-lock turnbuckles.

The complete sanitation system has been replaced. The electric panel and all 12 v wiring has been replaced with a Paneltronics 120v/12v. 4 batteries and cabling all replaced. 

The original engine was replaced in 2005 with a new Yanmar 4JH / 50 HP engine. This includes the transmission, drive shaft and prop. Current hours on engine is 750.

The current owner has owned and loved this boat for 20 years. It is not a derelict boat by any means. She will need some love and likely new electronics if your plan is to go cruising.  

it does come with a 16,000 btu AC system. The thru hull is installed for this.
