The Italian builder gives American buyers a taste of the Med with features more at home in the U.S.
At 87 and a half feet long, the Sanlorenzo SX88 Americas Edition qualifies as a superyacht, but the SX88 is a bit difficult to nail down as one kind of yacht or another. It’s more of a crossover between a flybridge motoryacht, an expedition yacht and a sport or express yacht (and maybe a tinge of wakesports boat).
Its high bow protects a social zone that consists of a C-shaped settee around a table, and from there the bulwarks slope subtly downward as they move aft to a cockpit that is big, open and versatile. Underway, the 323-square-foot area can accommodate a 15-foot tender and a PWC. With the tender and PWC deployed — using a davit that is hidden in the bulwark/handrail — the area can host multiple tables and chairs. Then, a section of the cockpit — aft, middle, about half the width — can be lowered into the water to create a submerged beach. A built-in ladder deploys as the platform lowers.
Up five stairs to either side is the upper cockpit, with a table for up to eight people, and through two doors in an all-glass bulkhead is the Sanlorenzo SX88’s main cabin, where owners can opt for a salon aft and a master stateroom forward or an open plan throughout. Either way, massive windows dominate.
Belowdecks are four or five cabins and, depending on the main-deck arrangement, the galley.
The flybridge includes the only helm (a doublewide driving seat has an identical companion to port), a large L-shaped settee, a bar with three stools, an entertainment center and two large settees aft with chaise lounge options. The hardtop covers the forward half, and there are options for a full or partial enclosure.
A stout fiberglass hull is complemented by a carbon-fiber superstructure, and triple Volvo D13 IPS1050 diesels provide a top speed of 23 knots. The Sanlorenzo SX88 Americas Edition comes with an American standard 220v/60 Hz power system and many other features U.S. boaters demand, including full AC, two 29 kw gensets, VHF with U.S. channels and much more.
