More than 30 years of experimentation has led to an aggressive, pretty, powerful sport yacht.
Italy’s Flippetti Yacht is less than a decade old, but its founder, Fausto Filippetti, has been involved in the Italian yachting industry for more than 35 years. He built his first boat in 1981 and helped launch the Pershing line in 1985. Now under the Filippetti banner, Fausto and his team, which includes two of his children, produce three lines of yachts: Sport, Flybridge and Navetta.
The latest in the Sport line is the S55, a sleek, 56-foot go-machine designed with the aid of Centro Stile Design. With a pair of MAN 1,000 hp diesels, the yacht can reach 46 knots and cruise at 38. Install the twin Volvo Penta IPS900 diesels with IPS, and top speed is 38 knots, while cruise is around 32.
All that power and speed is great, but the boat will also serve as a nice entertaining platform, with room for 14 people to sit comfortably, and that’s without counting the sunpad up front that could accommodate three or four people. The main deck is a nice one-level space from the transom sunpad to the starboard-side helm station. With the bulkhead door and windows open, socializing is possible from inside to out. The tinted, angled, sunglasses-like windows keep the interior light and provide an illusion of movement at all times. Even the hull windows are canted slightly forward.
Belowdecks are three staterooms, including an amidships master that spans the 15-foot, 3-inch beam, two heads and a galley.
The Filippetti S55 is definitely a Euro-style yacht, with an aggressive look and performance — thanks to modern diesel power — to match.
