Search for 18th Century Dutch Shipwreck Fortuyn Continues as Researchers Analyse Data


The quest to find a missing 18th century Dutch spice trade ship continues, as a team of Australian shipwreck archaeologists reviews data collected off the North West coast.

The team wrapped up a three-week expedition, looking for several Dutch wrecks near the Christmas and Cocos islands.

The focus was on the Dutch East India Company’s vessel, Fortuyn, which disappeared in 1724, with more than 200 crew, 36 cannon and a considerable sum of money on board.
