Description

The Xc 50 is the largest in the dedicated range of Xcruising yachts, which was launched by X-Yachts in 2009 in response to customer demand. The Xc 50 offers superb performance with an ease of handling that makes her particularly suitable for short-handed sailing.

The luxury of speed, space and style

The Xcruising yachts have been created with a distinctive hull design that includes deeper sections to provide a greater interior volume for accommodation, tanks and other essential cruising equipment, and a deeper V-shape midships and forward for improved heavy air handling. A medium to heavy displacement and high keel weight guarantees maximum stability, however X-Yachts’ performance pedigree ensures that every Xc yacht is responsive and rapid in all conditions.

The Xc 50 is designed for sailors who want to explore their horizons. She shares the deep, wide hull style that gives her smaller sisters their excellent sea-keeping abilities, but with an extended length that gives particularly elegant lines. There are three recessed port-lights on each side, integrated dark grey waterlines, and a recessed decorative sheer stripe.

Clean and uncluttered

The overall impression of the Xc 50’s deck is clean and uncluttered, with flush mounted, opening deck hatches and stainless steel dorades for optimum ventilation. Halyards are fed underneath the deck and teak surfaces are fitted as standard. A recessed locker in the foredeck provides storage for anchor gear including 50 metres of chain.

All sail handling is controlled from the cockpit. Halyards, reefing and control lines are led back to twin winches on the coach roof, which may be electrically powered. The German-style mainsheet is led to dedicated winches within easy reach of the helmsman, which also have the option of being electric. Both the standard furling forestay and the optional self-tacking jib make sail handling simple.

The mainsheet track has been moved out of the cockpit, onto the coach roof, allowing ease of crew movement from stern to companionway. The optional stainless steel davits enable quick and easy launching of the yacht’s tender from the transom. The anchor locker provides space for the standard 50 metres of chain, as well as additional sail bag storage.

All-weather protection

The Xc 50 offers fantastic protection and comfort on deck in all weathers. It is offered as standard with a conventional sprayhood, supported by a stainless steel frame. As an alternative option a curved windscreen, made from toughened glass, together with a stainless steel framed sprayhood top, is available for increased protection and visibility.

The optional bimini is cleverly designed with a curved stainless steel frame, so that it can offer protection from the rain as well as the sun, in the marina or under sail. Owners may also specify a cockpit tent which can be zipped to the bimini and sprayhood for extra shelter.

A total of four cockpit lockers, two forward and two aft of the steering wheels, provide ample storage for lines, fenders and cruising equipment. For halyards and control lines, a dedicated locker is integrated in the cockpit sole next to the companionway. Washboards are spring-loaded and recessed under the cockpit floor while the pushpit seats offer great views from the aft quarters.

Classic style and ample space

The transom features many of the Xc yachts’ most defining features. A positively raked transom gives the Xc 50 a distinctive classic look, whilst also creating a spacious aft deck by connecting the side decks, which is highly practical for cruising and ensures crew safety in heavy seas.

To access the swimming platform, the transom hinges down into a horizontal position, whilst the aft deck is lowered to create a walkway, effortlessly deployed by a combination of electronically operated supports and springs. Also integrated into the platform is a convenient bathing ladder and shower unit.

The Xc 50 features an additional compartment in the port side of the transom to house flammable material such as portable fuel cans, or a hinged stern anchor system. Neatly concealed behind a side-hinged door on the starboard side, is a liferaft ready for launch. It can hold charter regulation six-person canisters, operated by a launch mechanism under the helmsman’s seat which, when needed, can be deployed easily and rapidly.

An optional integrated stern anchor davit allows skippers to lower and deploy up to 50m of warp with ease via a remote control.

Central instrument console for all controls to hand

The Xc 50 offers light and responsive handling, making it a real joy to helm, while the helmsman’s position provides an excellent view forward whilst sailing and manoeuvring. The Xc 50 features twin wheels while a central instrument console ensures a good view of the navigation instruments, and doubles as a secure handhold for use at sea.

The throttle and engine control panel are mounted in a starboard cockpit recess for safe and reliable handling. Every detail is designed to maximise the skipper’s control at the helm and to help a shorthanded crew work safely.

Flexible sail plan and ease of sail handling

The Xc 50 sail plan has been developed with long distance cruising in mind. The generous sail area allows the Xc 50 to reach maximum hull speed in approximately 9 knots of true wind speed using a 140% overlapping genoa, however the sail plan has been designed to be easily managed by a short-handed crew for safe and enjoyable ocean passage-making, thanks to easily adjustable headsail areas.

The Xc 50 offers a great deal of flexibility with an overlapping 108% or 140% Genoa, coupled with an optional inner forestay (which does not require runners) for carrying additional sails such as a heavy weather jib. An optional A-frame bowsprit allows an asymmetric spinnaker to be flown with the tack point clear of the forestay, while a 94% self-tacking jib is also available.

The mainsail may be either standard conventional ‘slab reefing’ with reefing lines led back to the cockpit for both luff and leech reef points, or optional ‘in-boom’ furling.

Reassurance and room to explore

The Xc 50 features a moderate draft keel of 2.35m, with an additional shallow draft version of 1.95m available, to enable exploration of picturesque anchorages in all the comfort of a larger yacht.

The lead and cast iron bulb keel is incorporated into the hull by X-Yachts’ trademark steel girder structure, which gives tremendous stiffness and strength in heavy seas or the event of a grounding for complete peace of mind.

The Xc 50 steering system also has two independent quadrants for added safety, and the autopilot is directly linked to the rudderstock.

Interior

The Xc 50 is offered with a selection of interior layout options, each featuring three spacious double cabins. They include a roomy owner’s cabin with the generous double berth either on the centerline and an ensuite heads to port, or the berth port with the heads forward and an additional crew cabin.

There is also the option to have two symmetrical heads, one accessible for each aft cabin, or an enlarged single aft heads with enlarged galley.

A personal space

The Xc 50 comes as standard with a generous double berth positioned forward, on the centre line. This arrangement includes an ensuite heads with separate shower compartment to port, with space for a washing machine to be installed in the shower compartment.

Alternatively the forward cabin may also be offered with an enlarged sail/crew cabin in the forepeak, with room to accommodate one freeboard-hung pipe-berth, a WC, washbasin and wardrobe. This version features the owners’ head/shower compartment forward of the cabin, while the double berth is positioned to port. The sofa arrangement on this cabin’s starboard side may either be shortened with a wardrobe at either end, or a 200cm sofa with single wardrobe.

Classic or modern look

The Xc 50 main saloon features a comfortable U-shaped seating area around the saloon table, plus facing sofa area on the starboard side. Layout options include either twin ensuite heads accessible from each aft cabin, or a single heads accessible from the saloon and additional galley space.

The interior joinery of the Xc 50 is crafted in high-grade marine teak. Panel effect bulkheads use recessed thin teak battens, to create a modernist style while owners may choose from bulkheads in either painted white or the same high grade teak as the furniture. The galley, nav station, sofa fronts, lockers, shelves, wardrobe fiddles and grab rails are all made of high quality teak. All cabinetry is assembled and hand-finished by our specialist joiners using a satin varnish.

Eight opening cabin trunk portlights and two opening deck hatches, together with the sliding hatch opening, offer excellent natural ventilation and daylight, while privacy and shade is provided by Oceanair blinds and screens.

A well-appointed workspace

The spacious galley has all the facilities positioned within easy reach and plenty of storage space. A Corian counter-top and tinted splashback create a stylish space, while numerous handholds ensure it is safe and secure at sea. Additional handrails at the companionway and along the coach roof provide security under way.

There is the option to increase the storage and worktop space available in the galley by selecting the twin heads interior layout.

The well-equipped kitchen area includes a gimballed gas oven with three jets, optional microwave oven, and two refrigerators; one top-loading and the other front-loading

Welcome to the office

The Xc 50 features a comfortable and practical fixed forward-facing navigation station, with ample space for all electronics and communication equipment. In front of the chart table is a 190cm sofa, which includes a folding back-rest section that may be hinged down to form a useful occasional table.

The master chartplotter is normally located in the cockpit table console on deck, with a monitor down below. Meanwhile items such as a PC keyboard, printers and hard drive may be integrated into the office furniture.

Design your own interior

The standard Xc 50 layout includes three large double cabins, each ensuite with a generous heads/shower. The two double aft cabins incorporate plenty of storage with ample wardrobe and locker space, and maximum ventilation from three opening port lights/deck hatches. Both double berths are supplied with dual density ‘comfort’ foam mattresses for superb comfort.

The alternative two heads version features a single aft heads/shower, accessible from the main saloon, on the starboard side, and additional galley space and storage to port.

Intelligent systems

Using the very latest 3D design programs, X-Yachts designers, engineers and technicians have been able to create a yacht where no space is wasted. The systems of the Xc 50 might be concealed from view, but they were incorporated into the yacht’s design and construction planning from the very outset. Every cable and pipe run is fully modelled in 3D to ensure that the system can be simply installed – and easily accessed for servicing at a later date.

Piping for all the water systems on board run in dedicated service trays and channels. Custom-built high volume tanks for diesel fuel and water maximise the space usage underneath the saloon berths, and are also designed to optimise weight distribution by ensuring the fluids are carried centrally and low down in the hull.

An optional heating system is mounted aft – when sailing under warmer skies the optional air conditioning system offers extra comfort.

Peace of mind

The 12V electrical system is designed using efficient cable runs to reduce transmission losses. All cabling terminates in a ‘dry’ GRP box fitted behind the main electrical panel in the saloon for added safety.

The high-specification electronics include a 220V AC shore power system as standard, which is capable of powering the 30-litre water heater. The switchboard is custom-designed with circuit breakers, and the circuits comprise tinned marine cable for corrosion resistance. The high quality three-stage battery charger utilises AGM (Absorption Glass Mat) batteries for low maintenance.

Comfort features include stylish halogen and LED interior lighting, with a choice of media and navigation system options also available.

Smooth operation

A 110hp saildrive engine is fitted as standard with a 3-bladed folding propeller. The engine compartment is well insulated and ventilated, with good access panels, to reach the key service points of impeller, oil and water.

Careful planning has also minimised noise volumes from the engine, particularly in the saloon and cabins when motoring, with noise-reducing foam insulation and particular attention paid to all locking and fastening mechanisms of the access hatch.

The engine is carefully fitted with a shaft driven folding propeller supported by a streamlined P-bracket.
