Description

1980 Baba 40, Robert Perry design cutter rigged cruiser.

We purchased Stormy Duchess in 2012 at which time she underwent a complete six year refit.

After the renovation was complete we headed out through the Great Lakes and into the Erie Canal. Through the canal and into the Hudson River and onto New York City. Traveling down the east coast , in and out of the intercoastal waterway and down to the Bahamas. We have spent several years traveling about the Bahamas and the Florida Keys. However physical health conditions have necessitated a different style of traveling so we have decided to sell Stormy.

In 2018 we did a survey which valued the boat at 170k and since then we have invested another 30k in equipment. We understand that we will never get out of her what we have in but that's ok. We were going to originally list her with a broker but taking into consideration their fees and expenses we felt that it would be better just to lower the price to what we would get using a broker.

All the teak decking and deck core was removed. New 5/8" balsa core was installed and the deck was reglassed.

All the rigging, including the chain plates has been upgraded with new wire and turnbuckles.

All the electrical and plumbing systems have been replaced with new components. All thru hulls are new composit ball valves with new hoses

All tankage has been replaced. Stormy came with a cast iron tank which we removed and replaced with a custom fiberglass tank. Both the stainless water tanks ( rusty ) have been replaced with poly tanks. We were unable to fit tanks in that were the same size so even though she only carries 60 gallons we installed a Cruise RO watermaker which will produce 30 gal.per hr.

The washer / dryer, watermaker, hot water heater, battery chargers are all 120v and are run with a Honda generator. So you can run the washing machine and the water maker at the same time. Or both battery chargers together.

A Raymarine type 3 hydraulic linear auto pilot was installed last year. It is rated for boats up to 77,000lbs or a vessel up to 70' in length. As a back up we installed a Cape Horn wind vane which also has an electric auto pilot that can be attached to the quadrant if need be.

I could go on and on but I touched on enough here to give any potential buyer an understanding of the extent of work that has been done. I will answere any questions if you are interested, just email me at
