Description

SHOGUN 50“World Class Design”A 50-foot yacht with attitude that be sailed efficiently doublehanded – the Shogun 50 is lightweight and exhilarating to sail. It is designed to be easy to sail during a weekend cruise and on the racecourse, doublehanded or with a full crew. With sleek, aggressive lines and impeccably balanced ratios, the Shogun 50 boasts exclusive design features, including a retractable keel for shallow water sailing and spray rails to prevent a wet deck. The position of the mast and the layout of the interior has been optimised for performance and comfort, making the Shogun 50 a shining example of Swedish craftsmanship working together with innovative technology and modern sailing solutions.“Even at the berth, the Shogun is a beast: with aggressive and, at the same time, elegantly flowing lines, even the teak deck follows the contour of the hull. The extreme lightweight construction combines spectacular sailing performance with exquisite workmanship. The 50ft made of full carbon weighs just 7.9 tons despite the lifting keel. That is almost 500 kg less than a Club Swan 50. In order to keep the weight low despite the lifting keel and cosy interior fittings, Shogun Yachts has engaged everything that has a reputation in Swedish high-tech boat building.”— Hauke Schmidt, Yacht Magazine, Germany“Want to go faster?”Designed to always be ahead, the Shogun 50 is the yacht for you who want to go faster and be out in front. Her speed comes from the lightweight carbon structure and daring design – her overall weight is only 7 900 kg – 45% of which is found in the keel bulb. She has a retractable keel, with a blade made of carbon, which allows the draft to decrease from 3.3m to 2m.Large twin rudders keep the Shogun 50 steady and safe in the water, she is almost impossible to wipe out. Thanks to the mast being so far aft, the increased foretriangle allows plenty of headsail options to choose from depending on the conditions and occasion. Just like a skiff, she also has an extendable bowsprit, making her a real blast to sail.As much as she is a thrilling joy to sail, the Shogun 50 is also an example of extraordinary design. She has definitive lines purposely created to make her stand out and if you ask the designer, you will learn they are also there for good reason. The spray rails and a negative bow provides performance and comfort – the essence of every Shogun yacht. The spray rails limit the amount of water on deck, while the bow shape gives the hull a longer water line, increasing performance. The sleek line of the bow has been carefully designed to continue the angle of the forestay, giving the Shogun 50 a smooth and contemporary design that stands out.DECK LAYOUT“Smart Design”Boasting all the equipment and features required for full-on offshore racing, she responds very well to trim and tuning. Sail management is made simple thanks to the large cockpit and a spacious area down the companionway below deck. In addition, you have a 2m3 storage locker in the bow.RIG & SAIL PLAN“Flexible & Customised”With a total sail area of 138.5m2, the Shogun’s sail plan has been designed and optimized to harness enough speed and power for your style of sailing: whether sailing short-handed  or with a full crew. It is designed to maximize performance without compromising on ease and flexibility. A Shogun should first and foremost always feel fun to sail – and we believe we have made that happen.Unlike other yachts around 50ft, the Shogun 50 has torn up the conventional Scandinavian sail plan rule book. Previously, self-tacking jibs were considered too small or not performance oriented enough – not anymore! In a break from tradition, we have chosen self-tacking jibs for the Shogun 50.We have made a bold move and repositioned the mast which radically increased the foretriangle base, allowing an effective self-tacking jib. Our modern, square top mainsail is still large enough to harness enough power to drive the boat forward, and nimble enough for adequate tuning. The fact we also have a large overlapping headsail boosting the maximum speed significantly beyond the ORC letter’s estimated speed, is simply a bonus.CONSTRUCTION“Shallow Stability”Through the entire production of the hull and deck, state-of-the-art materials and methods are applied, using selected carbon fibre and vacuum injected epoxy on a sandwich core. Our shallow hull is slightly narrower than other yachts around 50ft in order to allow the Shogun 50 to better navigate the tight nooks and hidden gems of the archipelago. The keel blade is specifically designed for performance in shallower waters. Made entirely out of carbon, with no ballast function, the construction of the yacht allows for 45% of the total weight to be located in the bulb (3 600kg of a total 7 900kg) giving her incredible righting moment. For even more stability and upwind efficiency, the Shogun 50 has a 3.3m draft. To allow passage in shallower waters, the retractable keel lifts to a draft of a mere 2 meters with the simple push of a button. The carbon keel drum and keel blade are constructed by Marstrom Composites.INTERIOR“Cruising in Comfort”Below deck the Shogun 50 is cosy with a beautiful oak finish, handcrafted by experienced Swedish carpenters, that creates a warm and welcoming atmosphere. Underneath the wood veneer, the interior is built in using a carbon fibre laminate sandwich construction with a divinycell core. Comfort is key.Shogun 50 has two different layout options. The standard layout has the salon in the bow, and two identical double aft cabins. Ideal for a couple or a family of four. This layout emphasizes luxurious and open communal spaces for everyone to gather. In the bow a large u-shaped couch wraps around the dining table, which is overlooked by a galley divided into two sections to allow multiple cooks. In a clever design trick, the stove and sink are located at the centre of the yacht, which makes the keel drum a back support when cooking at sea.The chart table and heads are located to starboard opposite a spacious area for easy sail management. The double berth cabins are located at the very aft, with cushioned hull sides to create a relaxing and comfortable environment. This layout is ideal for a weekend cruise in the archipelago, or for racing. If you have a larger family, or simply prefer more cabins, there is a traditional three cabin option. This layout comfortably sleeps six people in private cabins. At the bow you will find a spacious owner’s cabin with a comfy double berth and a large wardrobe. The galley is located to starboard, opposite the heads. Behind it, the salon features a comfy settee and a drop leaf table to port, and a nice lounge chair and nav station to starboard. The double berth aft cabins feature cushioned hull sides to create a relaxing and comfortable environment.ABOUT SHOGUN YACHTSPhilosophy"Every element of a Shogun is focused on speed and comfort optimised for doublehanded sailing. If the thrill of going faster is your comfort zone, but you don’t want to sacrifice being able to have a nice dinner onboard, this is your yacht.Using innovative, lightweight materials and ground-breaking technology, combined with Swedish boat building craftsmanship Shogun Yachts is at the forefront of modern yacht building. Our quest for perfection makes us pay attention to every detail in the development process of our yachts. We hope that you appreciate the little things as much as we do.A Shogun yacht hits the sweet spot between the adrenaline rush of velocity in motion and the serenity of being at sea, with all the comforts of a modern luxury cruiser captured in a high-performance yacht. Shogun Yachts are not on the water to fit in… we are here to take the spotlight."The Shogun Yachts StoryFounded in 2019, Shogun Yachts is a Stockholm-based innovative Swedish yacht builder.Setting out to push the envelope from the get-go, our yachts are developed with a focus on the combination of performance and ease of use. By building our yachts in carbon fibre and utilising progressive production methods that keeps the weight down, we are able to create luxury yachts that suit sailors who love speed, but value comfort and enjoy cruising. The Shogun signature: "all our yachts are designed for fast doublehanded sailing. They are the result of a strong design philosophy, bold choices and some of Sweden’s most skilled craftsmen coming together. We aim to go beyond conventional design to push performance cruising to the next level. We do not compromise on quality or performance, but we do acknowledge that our customers have different demands. Our yachts are highly customisable and can be tailored to the owner’s aesthetic preferences and style of sailing."Shogun Yacht DesignDesign, yacht design in particular, is multi-dimensional: with many distinct aspects that need to be considered and that must work together. Out of tradition, they tend to be kept separate and are developed in isolation from each other: one person designs the hull, another the deck, a third the interior and then you approach a boat builder. At the very end you consult a sailmaker. When we design the Shogun yachts, we aim to take a 360° approach – considering how all aspects will work together, visualizing the functionality of the end product from the get-go. The design team works closely with the production team in the development process, to ensure that everything work together. Our yachts are designed in a collaboration between Oscar and Håkan Södergren.Håkan founded his company Södergren Yachts in 1972. Since then, he has become a well-known name in the Swedish yacht industry with many successful yacht designs in his portfolio. Today, thousands of successful production-line boats and multiple of one-off racers and cruisers designed by Håkan are sailing the seven seas.Håkan’s designs are successfully known for their effortless combination of style, beauty, and performance. Most kids use their computers to play games, to do homework or watch YouTube. Oscar’s first computer had professional design programs, so rather than play videogames he started to draw digitally. That sparked an interest that took Oscar to the University of Arts, Crafts and Design in Stockholm and resulted in a degree in industrial design.Oscar’s previous projects include, amongst other things, the sailing yacht Linjett 39, the Agapi 800 powerboat and the concept Agapi E-power. He has also designed the Rowmore 5.5 – a performance oriented rowing boat. Oscar’s design philosophy is inspired by the car industry and goes in line with modern product design. By applying this to yacht design, he takes it to the next level.Shogun Yachts ProductionOur yachts are a Swedish production through and through: we utilise advance production methods and materials. We strive for perfection in everything that we do.It is important for us to be able to oversee every step of the build process and have a good dialogue with our partners. We only work with trusted partners that are close to us. Therefore, the yacht design, plugs, moulds, laminates, and assembly are all by Swedish companies. The production of the Shogun Yachts is managed by the Linjett Boatyard. With three generations of accomplished boat builders inhouse, with hundreds of years of combined experience and a heritage dating back to 1886 – they are the perfect partner in this venture. The yard located just an hour and a half from Stockholm, outside Norrtälje, has state of the art facilities and equipment, and above all, a wealth of knowledge in building sailing yachts. Their knowledge and passion combined with the vision of the design team, and the use of the best available materials has resulted in a ground breaking sailing yacht.“By bringing our experience of what works on a yacht and how to create long-lasting quality, together with experienced carpenters, impeccable project management and a sharp design that uses advanced materials – it is no wonder that the Shogun Yacht is truly unique.”Marstrom Composites has helped develop the keel and rudder of both the Shogun 50 & Shogun 43 and are involved in the manufacturing of selected carbon interior details. The rig of the Shogun 50 is also developed and made by Marstrom.Based in Västervik, Sweden Marstrom can design, develop, and manufacture virtually any composite detail in their autoclave: from tables used for medical proton treatments to high end loudspeaker cabinets and high-performance carbon rigs. The North Sails loft in Stockholm have been heavily involved in the Shogun design process not only in the sail development – but also in the design of the deck layout and as a sounding board throughout the entire build process. The North Sails philosophy is simple – get the best people and commit yourself to making the best product, the same philosophy we adopted in creating Shogun Yachts.AVAILABLE EX-FACTORY, SWEDEN CONTACT DETAILS: Lead Agent: Matias Renlund – Grabau international (Scandinavia) Tel: +358406861501 Email: [email protected] More
