Acclaimed by the press from the moment she was launched, the Iroise 48 marks Bord à Bord's renewal in the design and construction of beautiful aluminum sailing yachts. According to the Breton shipyard, a cruising sailboat must be safe and comfortable, but it must also be enjoyable under sail and deliver good sailing performances. The choice of the twin-keel design (reliability of fixed appendages, lower ballast = limited displacement of 13.2T, beaching possible and reasonable draught in relation to performance) goes against the trend for the centerboarders, while retaining the possibility of beaching.

S'il se doit d'être sûr et confortable, un voilier de voyage, selon le chantier breton, doit aussi apporter de l'agrément sous voiles et de bonnes performances en navigation. Le choix du biquille (fiabilité des appendices fixes, lest plus bas = déplacement limité à 13.2T, échouage possible et tirant d'eau raisonnable en regard des performances) va à contre-courant de la mode du dériveur intégral de voyage tout en conservant la possibilité d'échouer.
