Freedom Yachts was founded in 1962 in Middletown, RI and designed many state-of-the-art sailboats. They set out to pioneer a new design for sailboat and yacht production. Freedom is best known for their out-of-the-box designs with the freestanding rig. This allowed for better control and steering capabilities. In addition to the new technology in rigging, Freedom Yachts boast a wide variety of technological advances. Their hulls are very sturdy yet lightweight.
Major is a two-owner sailboat designed by Gary Mull and built by TPI, Rhode Island, USA. Bay sailing or blue water, she’s weatherly, stiff and fast - very fast and easily handled. She features a large roach mainsail with a fractional self-tacking headsail. Easily single-handled with all lines leading to the cockpit. The large mainsail is raised with the help of a Lewmar 50 electric winch on her 57 Foot carbon-fiber mast. The sail glides easily on stainless-steel slides fitted to a Tides Marine Teflon sail-track. The head sail is furling and self-tacking on a custom made stainless steel jib-boom controlled from the cockpit. She’s an excellent sailor in all airs.
Deck layout is easy to get around and comfortable. Down below, Major is simply gorgeous. The beautifully finished and detailed cherry and ash wood work that Freedom Yachts are known for has been meticulously maintained, accented by the teak and holly cabin sole.
Recent upgrades, updates, and pride of ownership have kept Major in ready to go condition, even including substantial maintenance performed FALL 2022. The current owner is committed to keeping her in top shape and the next owner will benefit. Read on to see the recent updates and full specs, come see the boat and take advantage of the opportunity!
