OVERVIEW:
The American 18 daysailer is spacious and comfortable, thanks to its wide, 7-foot beam. Constructed of hand-laid fiberglass, this daysailer is exceptionally durable. The boat is both stable and speedy.
Sailing flat with minimal heel, It has exceptional performance in a light breeze or moderate wind, even reaching a plane when on a broad reach. In strong wind it sails well under the main alone, and the main can be reefed if needed. The anodized boom is above head-height of seated occupants. The hull is constructed with copious closed cell foam floatation, which adds to boat safety.
All rigging is stainless. The roomy 20-inch depth, self-bailing cockpit provides comfortable 12-foot inboard bench seating for up to six adults. The kick-up centerboard and rudder facilitate launching and retrieving, and they allow going into shallow water near beaches. With the centerboard and rudder raised the boat has an 8” draft; with the centerboard down the draft is 4’-2”.
This offering includes everything needed for days of fun on the water: boat, trailer, trolling motor, and sails. The main sail is white with purple and green stripes. The jib is white. A motor mount added to the stern accommodates the Minn Kota Endura C-2 trolling motor (5-speed, 30-lb-thrust, 30-inch shaft length). The Wesco galvanized trailer was designed and fitted for this sailboat.
FEATURES:
This American 18 daysailer has Harken hardware and adjustable jib tracks. All sheets are color-coded. Aft, there are two cooler or fuel tank storage areas. Nearby are two storage compartments under the benches that have open access. A larger forward storage compartment has an added Plexiglass door for water spray tightness. There are white, fitted, snap-fastened cushions for the cockpit benches. A swim/boarding ladder is on the transom. A spare wheel for the trailer is included. For the electric motor, a 12-volt lithium battery manufactured by Dakota and its recharging cable are included. The purchase price also includes a gizmo bag, bungee cords, and adult life preservers.
SPECIAL NOTES:
The original owner is selling this clean, like-new daysailer in excellent condition. The boat and trailer have been stored indoors in a garage since 2020. The trolling motor, with only 2 hours of use, is clean and barely broken in. It too has also been garage stored the last three and a half years. Written instructions for setup at a marina are included. The entire package is available at a reasonable price -- thousands below what this package would be new now in 2024!
