Built in 1950 in Newcastle, Australia by S. F. Heaton for his family. 'Nirvana 1' was the first yacht built specifically for the Sydney-Hobart race. Her sturdy hull is made of ironwood and her topsides are rosewood all fastened with 7/16 inch copper rivets to sawn oak ribs then splined and skinned with dynel.
She is beautifully furnished in teak, mahogany and maple below decks providing a lovely, elegant feel which is very bright and airy. Etched glass, butterfly hatches and a custom stained glass ports brighten the saloon and add old-world charm. There is very comfortable lounging around a large U shaped dining saloon forward of the large and well equipped U shaped galley area, and a separate reading cabin just aft of the owners suite forward which has a full queen bed. Nirvana 1 underwent a complete refit from 2006-2008 including rebuilding the interior with the finest materials, the deck glassed over, a new Yanmar 4JH3-HTE 92hp turbo installed was installed along with new plumbing and electrical wiring. Recently the hull was repainted in 2015 and a brand new mast and rigging was installed 2021, as was a a new bimini dodger and headsail
