Description

This beautiful Shannon 28 was built for Harry Dittler (Captain US Navy retired) in 1981. While people have commented that Walt Schulz runs Shannon Boat like the Prussian army, the US Navy influence was strong during Shannon's formative years, as Walt's right hand man in the office was John Seymour,  a retired USN Chief Warrant Officer, veteran of aircraft carrier service in WWII, Korean War and Vietnam War.  It was interesting to watch John interact with the several USN Shannon owners like Harry Dittler, as they recognized that John made sure Shannon was doing things the Navy (i.e. right) way.  The record system that we maintain on all Shannons was set-up by John Seymour, and we have included a few documents from the file for this Shannon 28 in this listing.  Harry would be exceptionally pleased to see that the current and previous owners have gone to extraordinary efforts to properly maintain and constant upgrade "Night Owl" including repowering with a larger Yanmar 20HP diesel, deck non-skid resurfacing, sails, canvas, electronics, batteries, etc. The exquisite teak joinerwork of the preferred open Plan B layout looks as good as the day we built her. People really don't own Shannons, as they are more like stewards for a period of time, and the unwritten obligation is, as this current owner has done, is to pass the boat on in better condition than you found her, with Shannon providing ongoing techical assistance to all our owners.  Shannon 28 #36 "Patriot/Night Owl"was built to outlast all of us, unusal in our "disposable throw it away and buy a new one" culture.  This Shannon 28 is located in one of the most incredibly scenic areas of North America and ready for to start cruising the San Juans right away (don't miss the bakeries in Sidney BC) and maybe all the way to Alaska this summer.Builder: Shannon Boat CompanyDesigner: Walter SchulzModern Hull Shape: Displacement, with cutaway forefoot and rudder skegRudder:  Stern mounted on protective skegDimensionsLOA: 30 ft 6 inBeam: 9 ft 6 inLWL: 23 ft 0 inLength on Deck: 28 ft 2 inMaximum Draft: 4 ft 3 inDisplacement: 9300 lbsBallast: 3600 lbs internal solid lead (no keel bolts)Headroom: 6 ft 2 inTankageFresh Water Tanks: 3 Stainless steel (65 Gallons Total)Fuel Tank: 1 Aluminum (20 Gallons)Holding Tank: 1 PVC (20 Gallons)EquipmentGround TackleAnchor Windless 12VDC LewmarPrimary: 10kg Bruce 160’ chain and attached 200’ rodeSecondary:  CQR w/ 30’ chain and attached rode of unknown lengthPicnic Hook: Small Danforth with rode of unknown lengthAnchor Snubbing lineStern Tie to Shore: Polypropylene spool with rail mounting gearSafety/DockingLifeslingThree basic PFDsFive Black Fenders + Black docking linesHose and nozzle for saltwater pressure systemSafety harness + Fore->Aft web to clip on toDrogue ParachuteElectronics/ElectricalHumminbird HELIX 7 – digital charts from Olympia to Skagway all of Vancouver IslandTransducer – Dual Spectrum CHIRP2nd Depth Sounder gear - Ratheon BiData + Thru Hull fitting + Transducer – Note: This is operational but not installedStandard Horizon Handheld VHFFuruno Radar 1621Raymarine Appelco VHF 5160Raymarine AutoHelm ST-4000+2m / 440 Ham Radio + FM Receiver + Stereo SpeakersEngine start batteryHouse bank battery 8D new 202133 watt solar panel with controllerShorepower with Cord and shore power adapters: 15->30 amp, 30 amp->3 prong residential plugInterior/GalleyPropane StoveFresh and Saltwater pressure pumpsPropane Security deviceDishes and bowlsPropane cabin heaterBBQ Grill rail mountOil lampSix bronze opening portlights and overhead hatchesSails (new 1997) and riggingMain with 2 reefs140% Genoa on Harken roller furlerStaysail / storm sailRERUN cruising spinnakeCanvas covers: Mainsail, Staysail, and WheelDodger and cockpit awningKeel stepped mainmastStaysail and main sheet travelersSelf-tailing primary winchesWinch handlesMotorYanmar 3YM20 20HP FWC – ~700 Hours EstimatedSparesAdditional High-capacity alternator – 128 amps at 12VComplete extra water pumpFan belts Yanmar belt 11981Spare Oil and Fuel filtersMixing elbow gasketSpare Water pump impellersMaintenance supplies too numerous too listUS and Canadian Charts including chart kits too numerous to listShow More
