Description

SARGO is a blue water cruising sailor’s dream.  Her beauty lies in her function and form rather than glistening topside paint, varnished caprails, and decorator canvas.  Nothing shouts out “serious cruising yacht” like an unpainted aluminum hull, hard dodger, scoop stern, stern arch, solar panels, and steering-vane.  Built by the renowned Garcia Shipyard in France to the proven Passoa design series, SARGO has been optimized for sailing performance with high quality Antal winches and sailing hardware, performance sails, and low-stretch, Dyneema running rigging.Chantiers Navals Garcia is well known internationally for crafting aluminum sailing yachts in particular their round-hulled, shoal draft series of yachts with centerboards and twin rudders.  Built in Conde sur Noireau, France by skilled shipfitter/welders, these sailing yachts are highly prized for their safety and performance by world cruisers looking to go “off the beaten path.” The Passoa series of 46’ to 52’ designs is the most popular and produced model.  SARGO is one of the last Passoa’s built by the original Garcia founders before the Grand Large Yachting Group purchased this company to build their Allures lines of sailing yachts and Exploration series of Garcia’s.HIGHLIGHTS:Shallow draft, centerboard, cockpit control, (4.0'-10.0', 1.2m-3.1m)Ballast is integral to hull, 10,363 lbs, (4,700 kgs), encapsulated ironAll major deck fittings are welded to the deck not through-bolted.The sliding companionway hatch when closed is completely watertight.Volvo Penta D2-75, turbo, low rpm, high torque, quiet, low vibrationSidepower variable speed, retractable bow thrusterVelscaf mast, boom, gooseneck, dual spreaders, discontinuous rod rigging (replaced in 2019)Standing rigging secured to heavy aluminum tabs welded to the deck.Antal high performance sailing hardware including twelve self-tailing winchesBoat is easily single handed and can routinely log 170-200 nm days.Watt & Sea hydrogenator650 watts of solar on stern archCruise RO 30 gph watermakerAB RIB and Suzuki outboard engineFour-foot,shallow draft/centerboarddesign with “dry out” capability:  A foil shaped centerboard swings down from an aluminum centerboard trunk located beneath the cabin sole/salon settee.  Lifting is done with 4:1 block and tackle and line led to the cockpit where a winch easily raises the board.  Lowering is done by gravity.  Should one venture into shallow water with the board down, it will swing up on impact to prevent damage.  When drying out, this boat tips forward on a wedge-shaped skeg and balances on a section of flat section of hull beneath the mast.  Rudders are lifted clear of the beach.Safe and strong withwatertight bulkheadsforward and aft.  Integral aluminum water tanks, fuel tanks, and encapsulated iron ballast tanks form a double bottom.  To keep this metal boat quiet, warm, cool, and dry, closed cell block foam insulates all living areas above the waterline.Dual, heavy-duty aluminum rudders and rudder tubes are massively constructed.  Rudder tubes top are above the waterline allowing rudder removal in the water.  In the unlikely event one rudder is damaged, disconnecting thesteeringlinkage allows use of the second rudder.  The rudder blades are canted outboard, foil shaped, and balanced.  A Whitlock gear and rod steering system provides friction free, responsive, and light steering from the carbon fiber wheel.  A high performance NKE autopilot controls a strong and reliable Lecomble & Schmidt hydraulic autopilot drive. In a survey of most desirable features conducted by Jimmy Cornell of cruising sailors who had reached New Zealand, ahard dodgerwas atop the list.  SARGO has a bulletproof aluminum hard dodger with rounded acrylic ports, opening top hatches, and aft canvas protection to keep crew safe and comfortable.Any cruising boat will requiremaintenanceand upkeep.  Eliminating exterior wood, waxed/polished gel coat, and painted surfaces greatly reduces maintenance and allows more time to relax and tour interesting destinations.  And, the unpainted aluminum hull will be less of a target in poor/third world countries than a glistening “trophy” yacht.  SARGO has reduced exterior paint to her spars painted international orange spars for safety and visibility.SARGO has one of the bestscoop sternsfound on any cruising boat.  The swim platform is large enough to offload and rinse dive gear, clean fish or comfortably shower after swimming.  Its height above the waterline is perfect: high enough to stay dry at anchor yet low enough for easy boarding from dingy or water.  A step to the main deck is formed by the liferaft locker and two top opening storage lockers.Show More
