Description

The Hinckley Pilot 35 was an instant classic (her sheer is almost certainly one of the sweetest ever penned), and the ensuing decades have done nothing to lessen her appeal--"Most remarkable for her beauty, the Pilot 35 is a balanced, traditional looking boat with a deeply curved sheer and plenty of overhang fore and aft. She points well and is stable in a blow. The design has been cruised widely and seriously raced as well as of course plenty of the weekending and daysailing that most of of do; it embodies a “dual purpose ideal” that many sailors put at the heart of our sport, and many still see her as the sum and substance of what a boat should be"That's how Practical Sailor begins their review of the Pilot 35 and how right they are--this S&S design is a classic in the truest sense of the word (see the full article by clicking on FULL SPECS above). This particular example (hull #3565, originally christened "Pavane" and gas powered/tiller steered) was home-ported n Maine when she was purchased by the current owner and trucked out to California; since then he's kept the boat beautifully and she must be seen to be appreciated today. Some highlights: beautiful flawless brightwork inside and out, Awlgripped from the deck up in 2022, new canvas in late 2021, new rigging about 10 years ago (at which time the standard winches were replaced with self-tailing), interior cushions before that, repowered in the early 1980s with barely 1,000 hours clocked since (and just serviced in late June 2022), note that this 42 hp Westerbeke is considerable more powerful that the original which was probably about 25 hp.Also note she's one of only two Pilots currently offered for sale on the west coast (and the other one is wood hulled), and lying in a potentially transferable Sausalito Yacht Harbor slip; there's a long wait to get into this marina so this is a material benefit if you're able to take advantage.Price just significantly reduced and motivated out of state seller is encouraging offers.Show More
