Description

This is by far the best Fairey Swordsman 33 we have seen. Preserved to an exceptional level, she is wintered ashore under cover. New paint for 2023, Axiom kit, recent Sabre 225Ls, new covers, new varnish, and a superior level of interior finish. It features a rare twin heads/shower layout and is utterly gorgeous. If you like concours E-types, you will love this Fairey!

Construction

Current Part 1 British Registry.

 

RCD Status: Our understanding is that the yacht is exempt from the essential safety requirements of the Recreational Craft Directive as she was built and placed into use within the EU prior to 1998.

 

Hull, Deck & Superstructure Construction:
  • Fairey Swordsman Hull no.29 – Aft Cabin layout with lower profile after cabin roofline.
  • Hull hot-moulded in an autoclave using 9 laminations of crossed Agba Mahogany veneers – continuous from keel to gunwale, using Borden waterproof glue to impregnate the veneers in a steam Autoclave under 50si pressure at 100 degrees Centigrade.
  • Spray rails adapted for drier ride than conventional Swordsman hull.
  • Topsides hot-moulded in an autoclave using 7 laminations of crossed Agba Mahogany veneers.
  • Superstructure and bulkheads in marine ply.
  • Deck laid in teak (replaced 2003) fastened to marine ply sub-deck.
  • Coach roof replaced and toughened with resin lamination.
  • Teak bathing platform with stainless steel frame.
  • Topsides and cabin sides professionally painted in 2023.
  • New covers 2023.
  • A vast amount of work undertaken in present Ownership to improve upon the best Fairey Swordsman 33.
  • All invoicing available.
  • Cockpit flooring in teak and holly varnished sections, with locking corner pieces for improved fit and noise suppression.
  • Exceptional condition throughout, with over-wintering ashore in covered tent by professional team to maintain varnish, paint and general condition.

Machinery

Engine & Gearboxes:

  • Two Sabre 225L 6 litre, 6-cylinder diesel engines, turbocharged and intercooled, based on marinised Ford 2726T “Dover” block.
  • 360 cu. Inch capacity, with mechanical fuel injection.
  • Conventional shaft drive via Twin Disc MG-506-1 1.50:1-reduction gearboxes.
  • Port engine re-built, dyno-tested and sea-trialled after piston failure.

 

Maintenance & Performance:
  • Engine hours – approx. 180/188 as of November 2023.
  • Engines serviced and checked annually.
  • Cruising speed: 22 - 24 knots.
  • Maximum speed: 28 knots approximately @ 2450 rpm.
  • Single lever chromed Morse controls.

 

Propulsion & Steering:
  • 3-bladed bronze propellers supported by bronze P-brackets.
  • Wheel rod steering with replacement bushes.

Electrical Systems

Voltage Systems:

  • 24V system with 220V shore power and ring main.
  • 12V droppers/converters as required.

 

Battery Banks:
  • 2 x Switched domestic batteries.
  • 2 x Engine batteries, with parallel switching.

 

Battery Chargers:
  • 24/40-3 220V automatic Mastervolt battery charger.

 

Alternators:
  • 24V alternator fitted to each engine.

  • Shore power connection and cable.

  • Two replacement stainless steel fuel tanks totalling 200 gallons / 910 litres approximately.

Description of layout from forwards:
  • Forward cabin with V berths, overhead shelving each side with two storage drawers, cupboard to port with pull out drawers to starboard and brass table lamps each side.
  • Saloon behind to port with U-shaped dinette, overhead shelving, Alpine player with 6 CD auto-changer with saloon and cockpit speakers (new aerial 2017), teak table, Clock & Barometer and overhead cupboard above settee to port.
  • Heads opposite with manual toilet, hand basin with hot and cold water, showerhead, storage cupboard above basin and teak grating to flooring.
  • Master cabin aft with large double sprung berth to starboard, drawers underneath, two brass reading lights, bespoke cocktail cabinet with full set of crystal glasses. Single wardrobe and drawers to port.
  • En suite heads compartment with manual toilet, sink with hot and cold water, storage underneath and Teak grating. Curtains re-lined 2017.
