Description

‘Iron Henry’ has all the character of a traditional narrow boat with the benefit of being modern and well equipped. Bought by the current owner in 2020, it has undergone a full repaint, blacking, new anodes, an engine re-build in 2022 and comes with a full inventory. She is well presented and ready to use. Construction

Welded steel plate – 10mm base plate, 6mm hull sides and decks, 4mm cabin sides and roof. Josher style bow, replica rivets, scrolled cants and handrails, recessed cabin side panels, self-draining fore and aft decks. Hull coated in bitumen paint, black enamel topsides, grey non-slip side decks, red foredeck, aft deck and roof, grey cabin side panels with cream frame lines. Traditional signwriting on both sides, red and cream panels around stern, cream and grey panels at the bow. Bronze anodized cabin side windows with top hopper panel and lower sliding panel, brass port hole and bulls eye portholes, steel framed forward stable-type doors with mahogany and glazed panels, steel aft doors with traditionally painted wood panels, steel pigeon box on cabin roof above the engine room. Forward black fabric cratch cover on a hardwood, glazed frame. Expanded polystyrene cabin insulation, concrete slab ballast. Hull blacked and new anodes fitted in January 2022, waterline epoxied. Superstructure re-painted in December 2021. All tanks and holds epoxied and new water tank fitted in 2022.

Accommodation

Forward stable type doors lead to-:
Saloon with full height fitted storage cupboards to port, multi-fuel stove to starboard, steps with storage inside and access to the domestic water tank and pump, fitted shelving on both sides with additional storage to port, two cabin windows, carpeted flooring.
Galley on the starboard side with bespoke built-in furniture, storage cupboards and drawers, wall unit, shelves, laminate work surface, tiled splash back, double sink with mixer tap, cooker, fridge, water heater, timber lined steel half doors on the port side, window to starboard, vinyl flooring, doors forward and aft.
A full width, walk-through, fully tiled WC and shower room with a quadrant, full height shower cubicle, wash basin, cassette toilet, storage locker, mirrored wall cabinet, radiator and window with privacy glazing, vinyl flooring, doors forward and aft.
Cabin with a fitted double berth (6’3″ x 3’10”) with storage and hot water calorifier tank beneath, overhead lockers, fitted full height wardrobe, reading lights, two windows, radiator, solid wood flooring.
Engine room with steel half-doors on both sides, a pigeon box above, a corner unit to port with a sink mounted on top and a Webasto heater inside the locker, cupboard with electrical systems, chequer plate flooring, doors forward and aft.
Boatman’s cabin with a traditional fold-out crossbed (5’9″ x 3’6″), a single quarter berth on the settee (6’8″ x 1’10”), traditional lockers with decorative, painted panels, engine gear and throttle controls pass through to be accessible by the helm, solid fuel stove, port hole window, grey upholstery, and steps to the aft deck via double steel, wood lined doors and a sliding hatch.
The interior fit-out is in quality, professional joinery with light sapele-faced ply side linings (to deck level), white painted koto tongue and groove panelling to the cabin sides and head linings, bulkheads in sapele-faced ply/blockboard. The Boatman’s cabin is finished in simulated oak grain (aka scumble) with bright beaded recesses and painted panels. Finishes include light grey curtains, grey carpet (saloon), vinyl flooring (galley and WC), solid wood flooring (centre cabin), chequer plate (engine room).

Engines

Lister FR2 1.6L diesel engine producing 18hp at 1800 rpm. Originally built in 1960, it was re-built in 1995 and then again in 2022 (detailed invoice available). Engine is keel cooled. Lister Blackstone mechanical gearbox with 2:1 reduction. Engine controlled by traditional speed wheel and push-pull gear lever. Ammeter, voltmeter, oil pressure and temperature gauges. Twin alternators.

Equipment

Fire extinguishers and blanket, 2 x 13kg LPG bottles, hot water calorifier tank coupled to engine and Webasto, LPG free-standing cooker, Morco instant LPG water heater, multifuel stoves x 2, Ecofan, ship’s clock and barometer, Thetford cassette toilet, Webasto Thermo Top diesel heater (serviced 2023), fin and conventional radiators, boat hook, pole, mooring warps and fenders.

Electrics

12v – 1 x 180Ah engine battery, 3 x 180Ah leisure batteries (all batteries replaced in 2022), Victron smart battery monitor system, circuit breakers, LED and deck head filament cabin lighting, plug sockets, Shoreline fridge, deck and tunnel lights, navigation lights, horn, galvanic isolator, Jabsco Par-Max 2.9 domestic water pump, shower waste pump, stereo music player and speakers.
240v – shoreline connection, consumer unit, Victron Smart 3kW inverter, Victron battery charger, Toshiba TV and aerial, plug sockets (inc. USB ports), microwave oven.
