Description

Traditional Ocean Sailing Dhow built for monsoon wind sailing and cruising. Building proses from 2000-2003, 140 tons of teak.

Sanjeeda is the biggest rigged traditional Ocean Dhow plying the Indian Ocean and is nearly 100ft long, constructed year 2000 - 2003 out of 140 tons solid rare Indian River Teak; a unique replica of Vasco da Gama’s vessel sailing to Africa in 1498. Sanjeeda; Queen of the Indian Ocean is still a young lady celebrating her 20 years birthday in 2023. She is in good conditions and probably the only Ocean sailing dhow you will find who still is operational. This makes Sanjeeda unique. The hull is good, and she is regularly serviced on the local Beach service centres in Zanzibar and in Dar es Salaam; normally two times a year.

Sanjeeda has sitting capacity up to 55 guests for lunches or dinners. When we arrange Cocktail events and take away all tables and chairs she can accommodate up to 120 guests.

Sanjeeda is normally doing 4 - 6 knots when cruising on two engines and down to 3 – 4 knots running one engine. When sailing with the monsoon winds the vessel normally do around 6knots we are told by Captain James that has been on Sanjeeda since 2005.
