Description

A sensationally well-presented and diligently maintained 2004 Aft Cabin example of the wonderful Dale Nelson 38. SKOMER runs on twin Yanmar 440s, with bow/stern thrusters and remote Dockmate control, she is a joy to handle light-handed. Near-perfect pedigree of build and hull - she is spectacularly capable, with a light, bright and fresh interior. Many updates including Axiom electronics and new brightwork detailing. Not to be missed and the best we have seen for some time.

Construction

RCD Status: The yacht conforms with the essential safety requirements of Directive 94/25EC or RCDII (2013/53/EU as appropriate (Recreational Craft Directive) and is categorised A – “Ocean” (or Cat B – whichever is appropriate)

 

Hull, Deck & Superstructure Construction:
  • Solid laminate GRP (epoxied at new and in 2019) with blue gel-coated hull and varnished teak badging (stripped and re-coated 2023).
  • White GRP superstructure.
  • Rubber “D” fendering and rubber spray rails.
  • Fully teak laid aft deck, side and fore deck.
  • Teak companionway doors.
  • Aft deck lockers with moulded, padded backrests.

Machinery

Engine & Gearboxes:

  • Twin Yanmar 6LY2A-STP 440hp 5.8L turbo charged diesel engines.
  • Polished chromed steel Micro commander electronic controls at both helm stations.
  • Dockmate wireless remote control for remote control of engines and thrusters.
  • The engines are flexibly mounted and have a sea water filter to each engine.
  • HMI exhaust high–temperature alarm to each station.
  • Racor type fuel filters with glass sediment bowls.
  • Twin Disc 5601A reduction gearboxes.
  • High quality sound proofing to engine room.
  • Sea-Fire Automatic fire extinguisher to the engine room.
  • 2 x Engine bay fans.

 

Maintenance & Performance:
  • The engines have been regularly maintained, showing c. 1185 hours run at July 2023.
  • Engines last serviced by Yanmar agent in December 2022.
  • Cruising Speed: 18 knots at 2200rpm.
  • Maximum Speed: 27.3 knots at 3300rpm.
  • Fuel Consumption: ca. 75 litres/hr cruising with c.240nm range with reserve.
  • Boat last ashore for Seajet antifoul, new anodes, etc. - May 2023.

Fresh Water & Water Heating System:

Forward Cabin and En-suite Heads Compartment:

 

Wheelhouse:
  • Helm position to port and pilot seat to starboard with footrests fitted to both positions.
  • Helm and pilot seats with sliders and armrests.
  • Stowage beneath helm seat – custom bottle and glass stowage.
  • Second Isotherm fridge unit beneath pilot seat.
  • Chart table is to starboard and removable and stowed at aft starboard end of wheelhouse when not in use.
  • Book stowage and timber pencil tray at pilot position.
  • Sofa to starboard and L-shaped seating to port.
  • From aft of the main saloon one can access the aft deck above, or down to the owner’s cabin.

 

Aft Cabin & Heads:
  • Aft cabin has a large double berth and separate heads compartment, with ample stowage lockers.

  • Hull prepared & antifouled.
  • Stern gear burnished & coated Trilux 33.
  • Boot topping repainted with Trilux 33.
  • Seacocks lubricated.
  • New heads inlet valve fitted.
  • 6 anodes fitted.
  • Compound polish of hull followed by topaz sealer & polish.
  • Stern glands / cutlass bearings / ropecutters / props / thrusters checked.
  • Yanmar Engine / belts / coolant / seawater strainers check.
  • Generator serviced.
  • Eberspacher heating serviced.

 

Fox Marina August 2020:
  • Removed existing plotters, Simrad radar and replaced with Raymarine Axiom Pro 16 inch & 12 inch plotters, Quantum Q24D doppler radar.
  • Install 4-off Raymarine Cam220 eyeball cameras & fit 3-off tycoon projectors to drive cameras.

 

Fox Marina October 2020:
  • Replace existing autopilot with Raymarine Evo Acu 400 & 2nd control head.

 

Dockmate UK 2020 November:
  • Install Dockmate Twist handheld, wireless docking system with proportional control of 2 Yanmar engines / bow & stern thrusters / anchor windlass & horn.

 

Neptune Marina 2021:
  • Hull prepared, antifouled, sterngear burnished & coated Trilux 33, boot topping repainted with Trilux 33.
  • Seacocks lubricated.
  • New heads inlet valve fitted.
  • 6 anodes fitted.

  • Interior valet / move ashore / wax & polish to topsides & superstructure / new thruster anodes / Seajet prime & antifoul & boot top paint / new screen wiper blades / new fuel filler assembly & cap / descale, clean and polish sterngear / launch off.
  • Full engine service, replace engine anodes, coolant check, etc.
  • Fit new burgee halyards / fit new liferaft & cradle / fit new EPIRB.

 

Works from Jan 2023 to May 2023:
  • Anchor chain marked every 5 metres.
  • Lift ashore / prepare for varnishing and apply 6 coats Durepox 2 part epoxy clear, wet-on-wet, rub back, de-grease, tack rag twice, and apply 3 coats Awlcraft 2000 Clear to sprayrails and timber badging / detailed washdown / antifoul / polish & wax to topsides & superstructure / Boracol anti-fungal teak treatment and 2-part teak treatment / gas system inspection & report / bonding system check / mark anchor chain / replace hull & shaft anodes / check rudder grease and stern glands.
