Description

"Nancy Lakin"is a beautifully restored Covey Island 47 that has recently experienced and survived Hurricane Dorian in Man O' war key Bahamas and was brought to Covey Island Boatworks in NS for a full refit, which she has just returned to Annapolis to be sold:Current structural inspection/Insurance survey available on request.coveyisland.com/recent-projects/nancy-lakin/She is powered by a well maintained 2005 Cummins 6BT5.9-m with approx. 3865 hours use. Northern Lights Genset powers her AC systems. Her most recent upgrade details are as follows:* New Raymarine radar, chart plotter, depth sounder, auto pilot, Ais send and receive, rudder angle indicator* New electronic panel* New inverter* New Xantrex battery monitor* New rolls batteries house, engine, genset* New Balmar 210 alternator* New a/c units* New fireboy system* New fireproof rockwool material for hatches* New GFI's.* New exhaust elbow for generator* New seals in port lights* New gaskets for wheelhouse windows* New forward head* New fixtures in forward and rear heads* New propane control switch* New swim platform* New shaft packing* New Pettit anti fowling bottom paint* New Awe grip topside site paint* New cushion covers, forward bunk and rare state room* New deck canopy cover* New anti fouling paint on propeller and tuning* New zincs* New headliners throughout the boat* New overhead led lights* New mast lights* New solar vents* New horn compressor* New navigation lights* New inverterOriginal owners thoughts on her construction:Nancy Lakinis built to be so strong and rugged that she is nearly like an ice-breaker.  This is a 47' boat that weighs 30,000 pounds.  Her hull consists of fiberglass over epoxy laminated strip planking. A remarkable feature of this design is that she is built for very shoal water exploring, with a draft of only 2' 4" and a long keel with a sturdy stainless steel shoe so that she can be beached with little concern.REMARKS:This truly a remarkable and very unique yacht.  She is was designed and built almost like a tank - literally with 3/8" stainless steel armor plating on the bottom to allow running aground with little expectation of doing damage. The prop is protected with a tunnel drive configuration, and with only a 2' 4" draft,Nancy Lakingets to places that few others would dare attempt. What a wonderful freedom to explore places that others would never explore in a boat of this size. One might expect such a rugged yacht to be ruggedly ugly, but she is beautiful in a classic style.  She is also very economical to operate with a 1,100 range at eight knots and a stingy consumption of three gallons per hour. The hull construction consists of kiln-dried Douglas Fir 3/4" strip planking laminated with epoxy.  Inside the strip planking the hull is covered with three coats of epoxy and reinforced with longitudinal stringers.  The outside is covered with three layers of eglass in epoxy. The bottom is sheathed with 3/8" stainless steel for protection if the boat goes aground in an environment not friendly to boats.Reduced bridge clearance is easily accomplished by one person lowering the mast.  The bridge clearance is about 12' when the mast is lowered.Original past owners commentary:When the time came to move from sail to a power boat, I had certain specific goals in mind.  None of the stock boats on the market seeming to meet my needs, I had the good luck to see a picture of a custom boat designed by Dave Geer, a shoal draft boat of about 40 feet with a tunnel drive, which was close to what I wanted.  Soon I had an appointment with Geer to see about building a similar boat for me.I said to Geer that there were six things that I wanted in a power boat, as follows:1.Accomodation (separate cabins) for two couples, each with a head.2.Galley above deck where the cook could view the harbor.3.Traditional styling which would appeal to a sailor.4.Single engine with cruise speed in the 7-10 knot range.5.Shoal draft for Chesapeake Bay and my own dock.6.Small after deck with awning for harbor use.To satisfy these desires would clearly require a custom design.  Construction details and materials were not of great concern, but composite construction with wood and epoxy seemed to be the best for a one-off boat. After many consultations and emails, Dave came up with the design of NANCY LAKIN.  Changes and refinements to this design were made at the suggestion of the builder, Covey Island Boatworks in Nova Scotia.  The result was NANCY LAKIN, a boat which met all of the six requirements listed above, and which has given me much pleasure for ten seasons on Chesapeake Bay and in New England.ACCOMMODATION OVERVIEWNancy Lakincan be entered from pilothouse doors, port and starboard, or from the aft deck leading into the master stateroom.  The pilothouse also serves as the main saloon and galley.  Aft of the steering station one finds the galley on the starboard side and a large "L" shaped settee on the port side.  The large table positioned at the settee can be dropped so that the settee converts into a double berth.A shower stall and a head compartment are located forward of the pilothouse with the guest stateroom being next forward thereafter. The master stateroom and master head are located aft of the pilothouse. The interior woodwork is beautifully done in Florida Cypress.PILOTHOUSEThe pilothouse has wonderful 360 degree visibility for the skipper and passengers.  It contains a somewhat larger galley than normal which is a very nice feature for extended cruising and living aboard. There is also a large settee and dining table.  As the builder put it, "The chef and the passengers are always in the middle of the action with a superb view out of the windows all around."The cabin sole of the pilothouse was done in cork squares to provide exceptionally good traction even when wet, a nice safety feature.Sunroof - large, sliding hatchWindows - 6, openingWindshields - 3, openingWindshield wipers - 3Wishshield washers - 3Helm seatCompanion seatSetteeDining tableGALLEYStove - propane, 3 burner, ovenRefrigerator - Adler Barbour "Super cold plate," electric, top & side accessPantry - floor to ceiling, located in passagewaySink - double, stainless steel, single lever spigotPressure water - hot & coldMASTER STATEROOMSettee berths - 2, one converts to a double berthUpper berth - hinged, serves as back rest for settee berthcabin sole - teak & hollywindows - 8, openingAFT HEAD COMPARTMENTMarine toilet - manualVanity - Corian countertop, stainless steel sinksFORWARD STATEROOMV-berths - 2Portlights - openingReading lights -2BureauHanging lockerCabin sole - teak & hollyHatch - 1, overhead with screenFans - 2BookcaseFORWARD HEAD & SHOWERMarine toilet - manualVanity - Corian countertop, stainless steel sinkShower - separate stall (on opposite side of the passageway), has a drying locker to which engine heat is ventedFLYBRIDGEThe flybridge was designed to be very inconspicuous in keeping with the traditional lines of this lovely yacht.  If one does not already know thatNancy Lakinhas a flybridge, one is likely not to notice it unless right on top of it.Engine controls - single leverDepth finder / knotmeter remote - Raytheon ST 60Windlass controls - remote operationHorn controls - remote operationSteering wheel - stainless steelHelm seat - 2-person bench seat with backNAVIGATION EQUIPMENTAutopilotGPS/plotter -RadarDepthfinder - Raytheon ST 60, repeater on flybridgeKnotmeter - Raytheon ST 60, repeater on flybridgeCompasses - 2, KVH AzimithVHF - ICOM IC M502 with DHSENGINE & MECHANICALMain engine - single Cummins 220B, 220 HP, 6-cylinder, turbocharged, 3865 hoursFuel filters - 2, RacorWater filters - 2, RacorBow thruster - 80 KGFFuel flow sensor - Floscan 6520-RTY-22ELECTRICAL & LIGHTINGGenerator - Northern Lights, 6 KW, sound-shieldInverter/charger - Heart Interface Freedom 30Alternator - Balmar 9421 64 Series, 210 amp.House batteries - 3 AGM 245 amp., 8A 8DMain engine starting battery - gel cell, 183 amp.Generator starting battery - gel cell, 95 amp.Galvanic isolator - KCB, 63 amp.Spotlight - cabintop mountedRunning lightsAnchor lightCabin lightsCourtesy lightsOTHER FEATURESAir conditioning - Cruisair, reverse cycle, 2 units (16,000 BTU and 10,000 BTU)Heating system - Proheat X45, 40,000 BTU, hot water systemAnchor windlass - Muir Atlantic, electric, vertical capstan, reversingAnchor chain - 250' x 3/8"Anchor rode - 259' x 5/8", nylon, with 12' x 1/4" chainAnchor rode - 200' Polypro, on stern reelAnchor - 55 Delta, on bow rollerAnchor - Fortress FX-37 stern anchorAnchor - FX-16 "lunch hook"Anchor - Fortress FX-37 storm anchorDinghy - Trinka, 12', on chocks, has large and small sailing rigsOutboard engine - 3.3 HP MercuryWash-down pump - Shurflo Blaster, 3.5 GPH, electricWater heater - Seaward S1200, 11 gallon, works off heat exchanger with main engine cooling waterMast and boom - aluminum, has manual winchSteadying sail - "remarkably effective"RadioTank level indicator - Wema, for fuel, water, and holding tanksSAFETYEPIRB - ACR RLB-37, 406 MGH, with GPSBilge pumps - 5, electricBilge pump - Whale Gusher, manual, located at helm stationCoast Guard required safety gearExhaust alarm*Yacht View Brokerage LLC is always interested in very well maintained yachts to list, market & sell, call John Kaiser today!  Yacht View Brokerage LLC commission for direct sales is 8% for listings over 200K which can include complimentary Annapolis or Stuart Fl. dockage till SOLD! 10% commission for all other Brokerage or co-Brokerage sales.     Yacht View Brokerage LLC will successfully market your yacht from her current East Coast location or can coordinate delivery to our secure complimentary dockage on the Severn River or Stuart Florida for yachts with current market value above 200K and up to 80’ length (Power or Sail ).
