Description

We are in 1969, Carlo Riva was the first in Italy to face the material of the future, fiberglass. Building in fiberglass is undoubtedly easier than working with wood. However, it is difficult to build well. From America comes the mold of the Bertram 25 Sportfisherman. Driven by the determination to build something new, with the same passion with which he created his timeless runabouts, Carlo began to redesign, with typically Italian style, taste and elegance, the deck and superstructure of the American model. Already in the creation of the prototypes, he manages to mitigate the appearance of the bare plastic with the warmth of the wood, used in plain sight in the interior finishes. This is how the fiberglass hulls designed by Riva Bertram were born: they are new, they are different and such as to leave Dick Bertram himself 'stunned' when he came from the States to admire his original model which he finds it hard to recognize. At the Genoa Boat Show in 1970 this plastic boat appears for the first time, creating a stir and raising questions, some disapprove of 'plastic', while the international clients, amazed that even plastic, a vulgar material, could convey a feeling of beauty and harmony. Moments filled with emotion for the Man who had created the Rolls Royce of the sea and who was now preparing, with the same enthusiasm, to leave his unmistakable style in a new technological era. This Riva Bertram 25 is preserved in excellent condition, several works carried out in 2020: landing and overhaul of engines and inverters, new soundproofing of the engine case, hull polishing, new teak in the cockpit, new upholstery, painting of mahogany parts, new teak aft platform and steel. Each part is original Riva. Visible by appointment Southern Italy. Further information on request.
