Description

“CURRENT PRICE” IS A GUIDE.  ALL OFFERS RESPECTFULLY CONSIDERED.General DescriptionElco, aka the Electric Launch Company, introduced the first-ever commercially-produced electric motor boats at the 1893 Columbian Exposition in Chicago. At first World's Fair, Elco carried over a million passengers on 67,000 short excursions.By 1900, electric-powered pleasure boats outnumbered boats powered by steam or gasoline engines. But, over the next decade, boaters would come to prefer gasoline motor boats due to the advantages of range and power. Even Elco converted over to gasoline-powered boats, except for the seven electric Flat-tops built in 1930 as a remembrance if the quiet, clean watercraft that was easier to maintain and operate.During World War I, Elco built 550 submarine chasers for the British Admiralty. In 1921, the Electric Launch Company introduced the "Cruisette", a 26 foot gasoline cabin cruiser that turned out to be the "“Model T of modern pleasure boating".During World War II, Elco developed the famous PT boats that contained Packard aircraft motors. The company produced 400 of these torpedo boats at a rate of about one every 60 hours. It was an Elco that retrieved General MacArthur from the Philipines, and it was Elco PT-109 that was captained by JFK.After the war, the Electric Launch Company merged with its sister company, "Electric Boat", to form a new corporation, General Dynamics. In 1949, the corporation's focus was geared toward military and governmental contracts, and the Elco portion of the company was closed. Forty years later, it was reincorporated by an electrical equipment entrepreneur, who had a lifelong interest in antique boats. From 1987 until 1995, the company built replicas of the classic fantail electric launches, as well as custom-built gasoline powered boats. In 1996 Elco returned to its origins with electric power boats and electric drives for sailboats. For an entire century, Elco was considered a premier boat builder,Actual ConditionThere were only seven Elco Flat-tops built in 1929, and this one of the last ones remaining. This "One-of-a-kind" yacht, and it was restored by the Corbin brothers. The Elco 60, was substantially refit in 2000. She has a pair of 210 hp Cummins, condition unknown. She had a glass bottom applied in 2000.The owner and his wife cruised with her until 2015, when health reasons stopped everything.Maintenance was at a minimum. She is still afloat and docked but she needs another refit to bring her back to her glory days when she was a prop in the movie, "Final Countdown".It is more important to the seller to find her a good home and people that will bring her back her original glory.EquipmentA trailer is not included in this sale.Trailers are available through our St George, SC office.Engine(s) ConditionPlease read Motors and Machinery Disclaimer.TransportationNationwide Transport is available through CertifiedMarineTransport.com Custom Cradles and shipment to ports for overseas transport also supplied.
