Description

Exciting head turner! “Platypus” is a 2008 custom built 20’ Custom Carolina center console sport fisherman with T-Top. Well maintained and still like new. Built and operated by the present and only owner. This is hull #1 of B&B Yacht Designs acclaimed “Ocracoke 20”, featured in Wooden Boat magazine’s DESIGNS, January/February 2013, Issue #230. Described in Wooden Boat as having “striking curves, spectacular flare, efficient hull, runs flat and fast”.

Construction in Bayboro, NC. Closely supervised / documented locally by the designer, Graham Byrnes of B&B Yacht Designs. The boat was professionally rigged by Mobile East Marine, Alliance, NC.

LOA 20’0”, LWL 16’4”, Beam 7’10”.

Draft 9”, loaded 11”.

Displacement 2000lbs@ DWL.

Bare hull weight 1350lbs, with motor 1715lbs. She is light, strong, and fast.

Shallow modified V bottom, sharp entry, dead rise at transom 13 deg.

Self-draining scuppers aft.

Casting platform at bow and stern.

There are compartments port and starboard aft for future bait tanks.

Hull color pastel blue.

Runs flat, the design incorporates down sloping running flats at the chines which create the smooth spray free and level ride. No trim tabs needed and there is no chine walking on hard turns at speeds.

Construction 1/2” ply bottom, modified egg crate construction, cold molded sides (Ashcroft method, two layers 3/16” diagonal ply planking, staggered seams). The hull is epoxy fiberglass inside and out with 24 oz (1208) biaxial glass. All components are epoxy encapsulated/glassed structural fir and ply.

Performance/efficiency: max speed 42mph, at 5500rpm. Cruising @ 30mph, @4750rpm @4 gal/hr.
 Fuel tanks: Two independent 25 gallons Moeller belly tanks with separate fills; ABYC, NMMA, COAST GUARD approved crosslinked polyethylene below deck tanks.
Electronics: VHF plus wiring for GPS. Two new (West Marine) batteries included.

Steering: hydraulic.

Custom T-Top with Stamoid cover by Tarheel Towers.

Bright finished cherry rails.

Custom Gunwale covers with bungee straps, covers custom cherry bumper rails, from stem to stern, including fwd and aft casting platforms.

Power by 2006 Honda 90 4 Stroke.

Trailer, Magic Tilt, dual axle with surge brakes.

History: The boat was custom designed for the owner/builder to match a previously purchased new Honda 90. The boat was built locally, launched, and very lightly used locally in the Bay River area. Always kept on a covered lift at the builder/owner’s dock or seasonally stored on site indoors. The motor was professionally serviced annually by Mobile East Marine, Alliance, NC.
