Locker Spillproofing Made Easy

Boat builders sometimes forget that boats rock and roll, so opening the locker doors in the head or the galley can bring forth an avalanche of items that have fallen over against those doors while the boat is moving.
Putting in permanent spill rails is not only difficult, it can limit the size of items that you put in your lockers.
A good solution is to rely on shock cord as a spillproofer. Installation techniques will vary, but you can either drill holes in the ends of the lockers and knot the shock cord after pushing it through the holes, or you can install small strap eyes or cup hooks.
However you install the shock cord, it should be pulled snug so it will hold objects inside the locker. You may want to install two -- or even three -- pieces of shock cord, depending on the size of the locker.
To remove items from the locker, it's easy to push the shock cord aside; but you'll never have a locker surprise again.
