A Dripless -- and Inexpensive -- Paint Bucket

Print This Article   |   Email This Article

Nothing is as annoying as dripping paint or varnish all over the deck -- or yourself -- during your annual fitting out chores.

I found a way to minimize those drips by creating my own "dripless" paint bucket. I simply buy one of those disposable cardboard paint buckets from the local hardware store, then punch two holes near the top on opposite sides and put a straight section of coat hanger wire through the holes. I can remove excess paint from my brush by running it across the wire, and it will fall straight into the middle of the bucket -- with no drips on the sides at all.

It's still a good idea to keep newspapers under your paint bucket to catch any small "driplets" that may occur as you work. If it seems impossible, on windy days, to keep those papers from flying everywhere, just attach a paper plate to the bottom of the paint take a paper plate with heavy-duty double-sided tape.

The paper plate provides an extra measure of security to catch drips, and it moves with you as you move the paint bucket.
