Past and present coalesce in a new runabout from a longtime builder.
Classic yachting meets contemporary styling, power and technology. Hinckley knows a little something about building a classic-looking boat; heck, it knows a little something about building a classic boat, having been in the biz since 1928. Its designers took that heritage — sleek lines; handcrafting; the low, wraparound windshield — and combined it with the best of today to create a runabout with jet drives, a power Bimini, a joystick, touchpad control of all systems and a style that harkens back to a time when men cruised the harbor in bow ties.
The 34-foot, 3-inch Talaria 34 Runabout includes a captain’s chair and a companion seat behind the windshield, and a U-shaped settee just aft, to facilitate good conversation and/or backseat driving. A sunpad at the stern can easily accommodate two tan-seekers, and if folks in the cockpit would rather keep the sun off them, a power Bimini rises from under teak covers to shade the space. A forward cabin with twin settees offers respite from the sun or a summer rain, and a head ensures the party can stay on the water all day. Passengers can even take a shower after a salty dip or a wakeboard set.
Twin 320 hp Yanmar diesels coupled to Alamarine 245 high-efficiency jet drives can push the 34R to 34 knots and cruise at 31. Hinckley’s JetStick II is all the captain needs to navigate with ease; well, that and a 12-inch multifuntion touchscreen display at the helm, along with classic gauges. With 640 hp, and the optional towing post, the 34R can be a watersports delivery system for the kids, and parents will rest easier knowing there isn’t any potential danger from spinning props, since jet drives provide the power.
A Fusion stereo with four speakers and Bluetooth connectivity ensure tunes are available. It cannot, however, mitigate disputes about whose music will win the day.
