Two Major Salmon Derbies Produce Good Catches of Salmon Despite Stormy Weather

It was an exciting weekend of salmon derbies, and catches were fairly good when northern Puget Sound opened on Friday.

“Fishing was pretty good on Friday in Area 9 (northern Puget Sound), but surprisingly there weren’t that many blackmouth (resident Chinook) and a lot of chums that were actually biting,” said Keith Robbins, owner of A Spot Tail Salmon Guide who also fished in the Jacobsen’s Marine Grady White Invitational on Sunday. “There is a lot of bait at the bar, and it looked good.”

Robbins fished  Friday at Possession Bar with Benny Wong of Seattle, and they brought five fish to the boat. Another friend of Robbins was trolling and they hooked 11 fish all caught trolling with downriggers at 120 feet.
