Archaeologists with the North Carolina Department of Cultural Resources discovered Blackbeard’s ship, Queen Anne’s Revenge, which sank in 1718, just off of Beaufort, N.C., in 1995, though it wasn't confirmed as Blackbeard's until 2011. For more than a decade the team has been recovering artifacts from the shipwreck and painstakingly restoring them at East Carolina University in Greenville, North Carolina. National Geographic has a gallery of recovered items to check out.
