Aluminum Gains Ground

I’ve noticed more aluminum boats on the water. Why is that?
Aluminum is an excellent boat-building material, and boaters are starting to understand its advantages for many applications. It need not be painted, except for antifouling or cosmetic purposes. Marine-grade aluminum does not corrode in salt water. It is not damaged by the sun’s UV rays. It is generally tougher than other materials, and in many parts of the country, smaller aluminum boats are less expensive than those built of other materials.

There are a growing number of boaters who say that aluminum gives them better value, and they seem to be prepared to put their money where their mouth is.
